Liam lawson miami sprint qualifying

“My braking is really bad. I can’t brake for any of the f***ing corners. I’m braking so early,” said Liam Lawson, expressing his frustration after the Miami Sprint Qualifying session on May 2, 2026.

Initially qualifying in 17th position, Lawson’s standing improved to 16th following an investigation into Alex Albon’s lap time for a track limits violation. Lando Norris took pole position with a lightning-fast lap of 1m 27.869s.

The Miami Grand Prix weekend marks a significant return for Formula 1 racing after a five-week hiatus, during which races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were canceled due to ongoing conflicts in Iran. Lawson’s teammate Arvid Lindblad will start just ahead of him in 15th place.

Despite his struggles with braking, Lawson managed a fastest lap time of 1m 31.043s during SQ1. He reflected on the session, stating, “A series of unfortunate events in SQ1 meant that we didn’t have the Sprint Quali we were hoping for today.” Still, he noted that the car had improved since the morning practice sessions.

Currently sitting in 10th place in the World Drivers Standings, Lawson remains hopeful about his prospects for the sprint race scheduled for Sunday at 8am NZT. He remarked, “The car has improved from this morning though, so we’ll take positives from this into tomorrow.” Fans will be eager to see how he performs under these challenging conditions.
