Fiji Airways Suspends Dallas Route Amid Fuel Costs

Fiji Airways will suspend service between Nadi and Dallas-Fort Worth on September 7, 2026, as rising fuel costs and shifting passenger demand take their toll. The airline’s decision comes as jet fuel prices have more than doubled since the start of the year.

The Dallas route, stretching over 6,624 miles, was operated up to three times weekly using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. This change affects approximately 2,000 two-way weekly seats, which will no longer be available.

Paul Scurrah, CEO of Fiji Airways, noted, “These changes allow us to focus on markets where we are seeing the strongest and most sustainable demand.” Despite the suspension of the Dallas route, Fiji Airways plans to continue serving the U.S. with up to 11 flights per week to Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The airline launched the Dallas-Fort Worth route in December 2024 as its longest sector. However, with current economic pressures and limited demand for this specific route, a return seems unlikely. Scurrah added that “the combination of unfavorable economics and limited demand makes a return highly unlikely.”

Passengers who booked flights on the Dallas route will be contacted directly with updated travel details. Meanwhile, Fiji Airways is upgrading its Vancouver flights from A330 to A350 starting September 8, 2026.

This decision comes on the heels of an all-time visitor record for Fiji in March 2026, suggesting that while some routes may be suspended, interest in Fiji remains strong among travelers. “Given Fiji has just hit an all-time visitor record for March, we know Fiji remains an attractive and accessible destination,” Scurrah remarked.

The airline continues to adapt its strategy in response to fluctuating market conditions while maintaining connections through its codeshare partnership within the Oneworld Alliance.
