Oscar Woods, a former Girton student and trainee pilot, will showcase his guitar skills at a prestigious concert on May 3, 2026, at the Ulumbarra Theatre in Bendigo. This event will feature high-scoring VCE and VCE VET students from across Victoria.
Woods completed year 12 at Girton in 2025 and achieved an almost perfect mark in the VCE Music Repertoire (Performance) exam. He plans to perform “At First Light” by Steve Erquiaga during the concert.
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Aviation/Graduate Certificate in Piloting program, Woods aims to work for international commercial airlines like Qantas. He expressed his passion for music, stating, “I’m definitely going to be playing until the end of my days, because what else was the point in learning how to play?” This sentiment highlights his commitment to balancing both his musical and aviation aspirations.
Tickets for the concert are available at Gotix. Woods mentioned that performing helps him focus and enjoy the moment: “I sort of calmed down during the performance because you get in that mindset where you’re playing and all you’re focusing on is the music, and that was really enjoyable.”
The Top Class Regional Bendigo concert marks an important milestone for students like Woods who excelled in their VCE studies. It not only celebrates their achievements but also showcases their talents in a supportive community setting.
